AIM Solution | Providing robot-assisted communication therapy for children with autism spectrum disorders
Children who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) require 6-8 hours a day of regular communication and behavioral therapy. However, the number of therapists available is insufficient. Some children only meet with therapists once a month: at school or in a hospital. Schools are often understaffed, and teachers are responsible for multiple children with ASD at a time. Inexperienced parents and caregivers experience difficulty providing efficient training sessions.
After more than five years of conducting research at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Mahidol University, our team at AIM Solution has developed a robot-assisted communication training tool for teachers, parents, and therapists of children aged 5-12 with autism spectrum disorders. The robot is user-friendly and easy to program, allowing users to design training sessions that can truly fit each child’s learning requirements. To date, we have developed over 100 content modules, which have been tested in five schools and a hospital.
The project has been supported by Thai research agencies, and there are three filing patents in Thailand. We plan to expand to the US in 2020, and are in search of funding, customers, mentors, and business partners.

Electronic Nose | Solving social and industrial problems by giving machines the power of smell
Odor testing is used for product development, quality control, and screenings for a wide range of industrial products. However, human testers often skew results due to non-continuous testing methods and human biases.
Electronic Nose has developed machine olfaction, a technology that digitizes odors so that systems can describe and communicate them accurately to humans. Our system essentially mimics the human olfactory system and acts as an “electronic nose”, eliminating human bias. The technology is easy to use, and can be applied to a wide range of social and industrial problems, such as development of new perfumes, quality control of industrial products, taste tests and development for food and beverages, smart shoes, clothing, and furniture, monitoring the quality of water, and screening for diseases like liver cancer and diabetes.
Our team has over sixteen years of experience developing several lab and commercial prototypes from basic sensors to smart systems. We have eight pending patents related to Electronic Nose and gas sensor technology in Thailand, and have received government research grants of over $150,000 USD this year. We are looking for mentors, collaborators, and investors to help us develop the technology together and to expand the business.

Last year, over 15 million people died from heart disease. According to the WHO, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the world, but the way we train our physicians to diagnose heart conditions has not changed since the technology was developed in the 1990s. Today, cardiologists and surgeons train in three ways that are problematic—either on a living patient, which is dangerous, or on an animal or cadaver, which is not an accurate representation of what they encounter in the field.
To help physicians enhance their practical skills, we have developed simulators which give the most realistic impression of a real patient examination or surgery. We are the world’s first company which uses heart models converted from computed tomography (CT) scans from patients with various pathologies, instead of synthetic heart models based on computer graphics as is the industry standard. The first product, successfully launched to market, is a transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) simulator, already tested and verified by more than 800 cardiologists. The device allows doctors to more effectively train in the diagnosis and detection of a number of cardiac diseases.
We have gained strategic partnerships with Columbia University and the American Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). SensoriumLab | Providing a portable, non-invasive diagnostic and telemonitoring system for patients with pleural effusion
Pleural effusion is a medical condition where there is an unusual amount of fluid around the lungs. It is often linked to patients with cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, autoimmune conditions, and those with heart, liver, and kidney diseases. Current diagnosis methods are either invasive or radiation-heavy, and there is also no way to monitor pleural effusions outside a hospital. Monitoring this information in a timely manner can lead to reductions in hospitalization time and costs.
SensoriumLab makes a user-friendly and non-invasive diagnostic system for pleural effusion. Patients can be monitored remotely, even by non-professionals. The system uses electromagnetic waves to detect pleural fluid, and provides information that could help a doctor decide medical treatment—automatically sending alerts when the pleural fluid volume is high.
SensoriumLab is in the patent application stage, and hopes to run clinical trials and expand to the U.S. by 2020.

Vortex Oil Engineering has developed an eco-friendly method of improving the oil recovery process. Our technology is designed to improve the efficiency of the water flooding method used in oil production by 500%. Prolonging the life cycle of that water usage increases recovery effectiveness and reduces polluted water recycling costs. Our devices are tailor-made to match the parameters of each injection well. They use only water pressure in the flooding pipes, require no power supply, and can be installed in an hour.
We already have potential clients ready to go to trial in the U.S. and Canada, and plan to expand to the U.S. as soon as we acquire our next stage in funding.
